I recently taught a workshop on leadership development for my Alma Mater. I based my presentation on a combination of leadership books that I had read that inspired me to be a better and more effective leader. Later that day, I moderated a leadership forum with several prominent Latino leaders on issues facing our community. Afterwards I was speaking with the executive director of a prominent Latino community organization Ms. Joanna Otero, of Concilio about what has inspired her to be a better leader and the conversation led to the question "what are you currently reading or what have you read that has inspired you?"
I later thought about this conversation when one of the students contacted me for the names of the books that Joanna and I had mentioned. I provided her with a list and she later emailed me to say that she had just gotten the books and asked which did I recommend she read first. This email prompted me to write this blog, because I'm sure that many of us can benefit from each others list of books that have inspired us.
To that end, I'd like to take the lead by creating a forum for you to help each other find books that keep your forward-thinking wheels turning.
What have you read that has made you a better leader? Whether is non-fiction or fiction, I want you to share what you've been reading that has inspired you.
Please comment in the space below with the title of the book and a brief statement saying how it has helped you think differently or stay ahead of the curve. Use your full name so I can give you proper credit. Each week, I will select one book recommendation and feature it in on this blog and my facebook fan page for Latino Leadership Alumni Association, with props to you for the recommendation.
I look forward to your contributions! Happy reading! I will begin the conversation with one of my all time favorites which I quote from frequently: The Four Agreements: A Practical Guide to Personal Freedom, A Toltec Wisdom Book by Don Miguel Ruiz.
